National Archives (UK)

A letter dated 15 August 2000 confirms that:

Court-created materials (e.g. writs, indictments, judgments) fall under Crown copyright and may be transcribed and published online.
Affidavits, exhibits, and private submissions from court cases prior to 1935 may be used under the terms of the 1956 Copyright Act, provided no current copyright owner is identifiable.
All such use must credit The National Archives with full document references.

British Library

An email dated 30 March 2001 confirms:

No permission is required to transcribe or publish pre-1931 publications.
Acknowledgement must read:
“By permission of the British Library” with appropriate shelfmark.

General Register Office (Births & Deaths Branch)

As of 25 June 2002, permission has been granted to publish certified birth and death certificate extracts from Crown Copyright sources.
